No obstante, según Olivia Mitchell existen ocasiones en las que resulta muy recomendable: cuando utilizas herramientas de votación basadas en Twitter tras haber interrogado al público; cuando se abre un turno de preguntas y se aceptan también vía Twitter, desde dentro o fuera de la sala; cuando un ponente desea recibir respuestas a preguntas o peticiones realizadas a sus seguidores de Twitter. Sopesa en qué circunstancias es útil y constructivo mostrar el backchannel a todos los seguidores.
